How to Calculate Weight of Butt Weld Reducer
Whatever shipping by air or containers, it is necessary and important to do pipe reducer weight calculation for checking the freight. There are two types of butt weld reducer: Concentric and Eccentric Reducer. But they don’t influence the weight calculating . So how can we get their weight? Let’s find the ways.
There are two methods to get the weights:
- Calculate by formula.
- Calculate by chart.
Industrial Pipe Reducer Weight Calculation Formula

It this way, We should know some dimensions in mm and then calculate their weight by formula 0.02466 × S ×[ (D+d)/2-S] × H / 1000
- S: Wall thickness of Butt Weld Reducer
- D: Outside diameter of the larger end
- d: Outside diameter of the small end
- H: End to end dimension
Here is an example: A 1”×3/4” Sch40 eccentric butt weld reducer, we can know D=33.4, d=26.7, S=3.4. H=51 from specification, so the weight is 0.02466×3.4×[(33.4+26.7)/2-3.4]×51/1000=0.11kg
Comparing with weight chart, this method can calculate precise weight of each size, even though some special dimensions. But this way would cost more time and may make a mistake since it is complex.
